Willamette Narrows

This project was completed as a site analysis-based studio in the Fall of 2009 at the University of Oregon.  We took on a closed state park, investigating the site’s geology, soil, hydrology, microclimate variation, vegetation, history, and political factors.  Our task was to use this information to inform the revival of the place into a new park.

Willamette.Narrows.planDue to the nature of the park’s access – close to Portland, dangerous to vehicles, but with the river and the railroad running right through it – I chose to envision a park which was only accessible via train, bike, and the river.  In the post-automobile future, this could serve as an interesting model for parkland along mass-transit corridors.
